History
The resort of Madonna di Campiglio has become famous since the middle of the 19th century, when in 1868 the Italian Giambattista Rigi acquires for 40 thousand florins the possessions of the medieval monastery of the Holy Virgin Mary of Campiglio and rebuilds it into a hotel, and in 1875 paves the road connecting Madonna di Campiglio with the Val Rendena and Pinzolo valleys. Today, the founder of the resort is reminded of the central square, named after him – Piazza Righi. Then, in 1882, Madonna di Campiglio becomes the property of the Austrian Franz Josef Osterreicher, who turns the resort into a favorite vacation spot for the Austro-Hungarian bourgeoisie. The guests of the resort were repeatedly Kaiser Franz Joseph and Elisabeth of Austria, who were fascinated by the beauty of these places. By the end of the 19th century, Madonna di Campiglio began to develop as a ski resort: in 1872 the first Society of Alpinists opens here, and in the mid-30s of the last century, the first ski lift was built in the resort and the first ski school was created. In the 1950s, small hotels for skiing enthusiasts opened in the resort, Madonna di Campiglio is rapidly gaining popularity, and the legendary 3Tre Cup competitions begin to be held here. Today, Madonna di Campiglio is a prestigious ski resort with excellent opportunities for an eventful holiday.

Geography
The resort of Madonna di Campiglio is located in the Dolomites, in the west of the province of Trentino, in the Val Rendena valley, at an altitude of 1550 m above sea level, surrounded by the Brenta mountain range – the highest point of 3173 m, the Adamello glaciers ) and Presanella.
